Boudo

Boudo is one of the environmental typeface projects which I designed to interact with the urban surroundings. Silkscreen printed Letters were pasted around Amsterdam city center during three sessions of full action. Jaan Evart biked along and documented the process with an analogue camera.

Background

This typeface is a flexible poster modular typeface. Each letter consists of 6 posters (modules). All letters are combined out of a limited amount of modules and there are only 8 different elements allowed.
I drafted sketches for this typeface between November 2004 and January 2005, it took a couple of months to print piles of posters in the silkscreen studio and then some time to glue the posters. From the same design a digital version was derived with a little Indesign actionscript application that creates special text for typesetting in the layout.

Thanks to Jaan Evart for patience with photographing the whole project and Kees Maas for fun time in his awesome silkscreen studio.
